Privacy Policy
Sunset Chaser respects your privacy and is transparent about how we handle your data.
Information we collect
- Account details: email address and unique user ID for authentication and account management.
- Profile details: display name and avatar you choose to share.
- Location data: current location (if you enable permission), saved locations, and reminder schedules for sunset and activity-condition alerts.
- Community content: sunset photos, optional notes, and location tags you upload.
- Notification token: used to send sunset reminder notifications.
- Support communications: information you send to us if you contact support.
- Optional product analytics: random installation and event identifiers, platform, event name, and server receipt time for milestones such as viewing a forecast, saving a place, or starting sign-in. These events are not linked to your account and do not include your email, name, user ID, photos, IP address, coordinates, or free-text notes.
How we use your information
- Provide sunset times, weather, marine conditions, and quality scores for your locations.
- Send reminders when you schedule sunset or activity-condition alerts.
- Display community posts and profile information to other users.
- Improve app stability and respond to support requests.
- Understand which app journeys work well using optional first-party product analytics.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with trusted providers to run the app:
- Supabase: authentication, database, and storage.
- OpenWeather: weather data for forecasts.
- Open-Meteo: marine forecast data for water-activity conditions.
- Google and Apple Sign-In: optional OAuth login providers.
- Expo Notifications: delivery of scheduled alerts.
Public content
Community photos, profile names, and avatars are visible to other Sunset Chaser users. Please only share content you are comfortable making public.
Guest forecasts, widgets, and Apple Watch
You can search for a city and preview its forecast without an account. Guest forecast coordinates are rounded to a city-scale grid before being sent to OpenWeather or stored in a shared forecast cache. Search queries are cached for up to one day. Expired cache records more than two days old are pruned on a subsequent successful request.
The iPhone widget stores your selected place and forecast snapshot locally in shared app storage and clears it when you sign out. Apple Watch calculates sunset using its own location on the Watch; it does not send that location to our analytics service. The Watch app and its complication share the last location locally so the complication can update.
Your choices
- You can manage location permissions in your device settings.
- You can disable notifications at any time.
- You can turn off product analytics in the app's Account screen, including while using guest mode. This clears queued events and the local analytics identifier. Events already received expire after 90 days and are pruned on the next successful service request.
- You can update or delete your community posts and profile.
- You can permanently delete your account in the app. Read our account-deletion instructions.
Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and related data are removed from our systems.
